Ponte Vecchio Challenge

Golf Clubs and Balls are Back on the Ponte Vecchio. From 16th to 18th December the Arno River and Florence will turn into an unusual golf course for three days.

The cradle of the Renaissance will host the Ponte Vecchio Golf Challenge, now in its twelfth year.

This year, alongside the extraordinary competition, the 500-year anniversary of the birth of the architect, sculptor and painter Giorgio Vasari will be commemorated, whom we have to thank for masterpieces like the dome of Florence Cathedral and the Great Hall of the Five Hundred and whose works are housed in the Uffizi Gallery and the Vasari Corridor.

"This is another moment in which to focus on a city that is extremely beautiful, but which must be able to keep up with the times by offering new things," explained Federico Funaro, Marketing Director of Conte of Florence, the sports clothing label, which organises the event in Florence, during the presentation held in the Marriott Grand Hotel Flora, in Rome.

He added, ''The Ponte Vecchio Challenge is part of this type of concept and makes the most of the city's past. It's the kind of contest that gets amateurs involved – as well as champions – who have the chance to visit the city, its museums and wineries, and take part in photographic tours and tasting sessions."

Twelve international champions will compete on the picturesque green consisting of three floating islands in front of the Ponte Vecchio. The aim is to reach the three targets with only twelve balls each.

Golfers like Bernhard Langer, Robert Karlsson and Alejandro Canizares, last year's winner, will get to grips in a team competition between the United Kingdom and Ireland and the rest of the world.

With the GolfArt signage set up by IMC Media Vip, in association with Toscana Promozione and PrimaPromozione, not only the Ponte Vecchio will be talking about Vasari. Florence's historical centre is getting ready for the event with signage towers set up like the flags marking the holes on the green. The flags will be positioned at several points in the city to guide tourists towards the sites housing the works of Vasari.

Thanks to the service managed by INSEM S.p.a., the signage towers will be interactive: a QR CODE will enable smartphone users to access the information on the web about the events celebrating Vasari, as well as those related to the Ponte Vecchio Golf Challenge.
