Mimes, jugglers, human statutes and musicians – in a word, buskers of all kinds.
Our Pelago On the Road Festival in Valdarno Fiorentino is dedicated to them, a celebration-competition which for over 20 years has enlivened Tuscany with street art.
This year’s red letter days are Friday the 4th until Sunday the 6th of July. For an entire weekend the Florentine countryside is transformed into an enormous open-air stage, with an artist in every corner. Hundreds of buskers train all year just to reach Pelago in fine form and ready to amaze visitors and perhaps win important competitions organized by the Municipality.
Every year, in fact, cash prizes are awarded to musicians and musical groups, chosen by a jury that is specially selected every year and always formed of famous people from the world of music, information and culture. Every day you can attend performances of the competing artists, and in the evening concerts of well known artists who are special guests.
Innumerable groups, impossible to mention, have graced the scenes of the On The Road Festival, attending the fair from all parts of the world. (Last year’s guests included Daniele Sepe, Blaine Raninger, Doudou N'diaye Rose Group, Bagad Men Ha Tan, Banda Municipal de Santiago De Cuba...). The Festival area coincides with the Historical District of the ancient medieval village of Pelago, at the foot of the Vallombrosa Forest, an especially beautiful landscape: the people, the artists and the public in attendance form part of a deep and harmonious relationship between the individual and the environment that reaches unusual levels of impressiveness, hospitality and gratification.
