Divided between the provinces of Florence and Arezzo, it is a peculiar and picturesque area, crossed by the Arno River. This area came to the surface during the prehistoric age. Along the whole valley there are towers, parish churches, castles and very striking ledges. Many masters of Italian painting were born here, one for all, Masaccio. The Valdarno was the object and the scene of bloody battles between Florence and Arezzo in the late Middle Age. The massif of Pratomagno overlooks the whole region.
