Italian and international music at the Lucca Summer Festival, an event which has for ten years has come to mean summer for Tuscans and others. This year the D’Alessandro e Galli organization will feature on its stage in the downtown Piazza Napoleone, the ethereal Patty Pravo (July 5); Sheryl Crow (July 6); American neo-soul singer Erykah Badu (July 8); Italian by birth but English by music English Mario Biondi (July 16); Ennio Morricone, the “father” of so many successful movie soundtracks such as “The Untouchables”, “Once Upon a Time in the West (July 18). The festival continues with the rhythm of Alicia Keys (July 20); Mick Hucknall, the “red” vocalist of the English band of Simply Red (July 23); Chicago (July 26); and Leonard Cohen (July 27). In past years the festival has hosted such famous artists as Elton John, Ricky Martin, George Michael, Eric Clapton, Massive Attack, Bob Dylan. The concerts are held in the downtown of the city, inside the wall. It is best to leave your car in the parking lot along the road surrounding the city and use the shuttle bus which leaves from the train station. The fair opens at 11 every morning, with concerts presented at 9:30 pmk.
