It is one of the most charming centres in Tuscany. Just two kilometres from the more famous Greve in Chianti stands Montefioralle, with its Roman castle that dates back to before 1000 and its spectacular view that looks out across the Tuscan countryside.
Created from a fortified monastery, founded on the style of the Germanic military architecture by the German monk Tanchelmo during his journey from Cluny to Roma in 931, the village then belonged to the Ricasoli, Benci, Gerardini and Buondelmonti families. The village of Montefioralle currently has about 100 inhabitants and features on the list of the most beautiful villages of Italy.
On 10 July 2008, the village will act as the backdrop to the event “Stelle e Mercanti”, the evening market with musical accompaniment to its first experience outside its gate after several editions in the Piazza di Greve.
From 18:00 to 23:00 the place’s craftsmen will show and sells their goods, from traditional objects linked to the history and land of Chianti to more classic products. You will therefore be able to purchase wooden objects, plain or decorated with the découpage technique, typical products and even some ethnic jewellery.
Enjoying a glass of Chianti and walking among the craftsmen who present their ingenious works, in the coolness of a summer’s night in the hills, it will be easy to go home with a unique piece of Tuscany to decorate your house or for you to wear.
The Council of Greve will arrange a shuttle bus for the evening. For information: 055 8545271.
