The Etruscan and Roman finds prove its ancient origins. Florence and Siena competed for it and this explains the remains of defensive works in the towers, in the keep and in the charming Via delle Volte under the town walls. It was part of the “Chianti League”; today it is in the Province of Siena and has also beautiful environs worth seeing: Monternano, Grignano, Pietrafitta, the parish church of Sant’Agnese, just to mention few of them.
